What Happened
According to a report covered by GSMArena, details regarding the battery capacity of the unreleased Samsung Galaxy A38 have leaked. While previous reports suggested the phone would retain the camera configuration of its predecessor, the latest leak indicates that Samsung is planning a substantial upgrade to the device's battery.
The Details
The leak indicates that the Galaxy A38 will feature a battery with a rated capacity of 5,882 mAh. This points to a typical capacity of 6,000 mAh, which represents a 20 percent increase over the 5,000 mAh battery found in the Galaxy A37. GSMArena notes that this would make it the largest battery ever included in a Galaxy A series phone sold in Europe. Despite the larger capacity, the cell is not expected to utilize silicon-carbon technology.
In terms of other hardware features, the Galaxy A38 is shaping up to be a minor incremental update. The report states that the device is rumored to include a 50-megapixel main camera, an 8-megapixel ultrawide camera, a 5-megapixel macro camera, and a 12-megapixel front-facing selfie camera. If accurate, this will mark the third consecutive model to utilize this exact camera arrangement, following the Galaxy A36 and the Galaxy A37.
Background and Launch Expectations
Samsung launched the Galaxy A37 in March. Looking ahead to its successor, the Galaxy A38 is expected to launch alongside the Galaxy A58 sometime in March or April. It remains unconfirmed whether the Galaxy A58 will receive the same battery capacity upgrade, though it is considered quite likely that Samsung might use the identical cell for both models.
Pricing trends for the series also point toward potential increases. The Galaxy A36 debuted with a starting price of €379 in Europe, while the subsequent Galaxy A37 launched at €429 before its recommended price reportedly increased to €469. Consequently, leaks and market watchers suggest the upcoming Galaxy A38 could approach the €500 mark.
