What Happened
According to information shared on X by leaker Haze2K1 and reported by TechPowerUp, Intel might place the Arc B580 graphics card on its end-of-life list. The rumor indicates that Intel is looking to prioritize workstation and AI inference cards, specifically citing the Arc Pro series as selling very well and offering higher profit margins. Because Intel has not officially confirmed this plan and the leaker noted that the card only might go end-of-life, the information remains unverified.
The Details
The Arc B580 originally launched in December 2024 with a price tag of $249. In hardware reviews, the card outperformed the RTX 4060. Consumer availability for these desktop GPUs has already appeared strained, with the B580 reportedly out of stock across most retailers and retail prices climbing significantly above the initial manufacturer's suggested retail price. The available reports do not mention whether the separate Arc B570 graphics card faces similar discontinuation plans.
Meanwhile, Intel's workstation lineup utilizes the same underlying silicon. The Arc Pro B50 and B60 cards run on the BMG-G21 silicon, with the B60 featuring 20 Xe cores and 24 GB of memory compared to the B580's 12 GB configuration. Intel estimated the launch price of the B60 at approximately $500, which is roughly double the cost of the B580. Additionally, Intel's larger BMG-G31 silicon appeared in March within the workstation-exclusive Arc Pro B70 and B65 models, indicating a broader corporate shift toward professional hardware.
What It Means
Should Intel officially move forward with ending the Arc B580, the consumer market will lose a prominent and relatively affordable 12 GB graphics option. Even though the card has been trading above its original retail price, industry observers note that the company stands to gain greater monetary benefit by shifting production focus toward higher-margin enterprise and workstation hardware. At this time, consumers should not expect cheaper consumer-focused Arc graphics cards in the near future.
