Storage Requirements and Console Impact
According to Gizmodo, Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto VI will require at least 212GB of free storage space to preload the game. This large file size is expected to strain the storage capacities of several console models, particularly launch versions. The launch PlayStation 5 shipped with an 825GB SSD, but with the operating system and reserved files consuming 158GB, users are left with roughly 667GB of usable storage. Consequently, Grand Theft Auto VI will occupy nearly a third of the base storage on these consoles.
Xbox Series S owners face an even tighter squeeze, as their consoles feature a 512GB SSD with only about 364GB of usable space. Players utilizing modern Xbox Series X or slim PS5 models, which support 1TB SSDs, are slightly better off. Meanwhile, Sony's revised digital edition console has reverted to the smaller 825GB SSD size. Gizmodo notes that only gamers using a $900 PS5 Pro or a legacy 2TB Xbox Series X Galaxy Black Edition are likely to have ample room for the title without storage modifications.
Preload and Launch Details
Players will be able to preload Grand Theft Auto VI starting November 10, ahead of its release on November 12, according to Gizmodo. Physical store versions will only contain a digital download code rather than a disc. Demand for the title is already high; data from Sensor Tower indicates that digital preorders in the United States have reached 6.08 million as of October 13, generating an estimated $594 million in revenue. The analysis shows that 74% of preorders occurred on PlayStation and 26% on Xbox, with the majority selecting the $100 ultimate edition.
