What Happened
Leaks regarding Samsung's next-generation book-style foldables suggest that the company intends to maintain a cautious approach to photography. According to information shared by Korean leaker Lanzuk, also known as yeux1122 on Naver, major camera upgrades may not make their way to the upcoming foldable line, reported SamMobile and Android Authority.
The Details
The leak indicates that the base Galaxy Z Fold 9 will carry over the same dual-camera configuration as its predecessor, featuring a 50-megapixel primary shooter paired with a 50-megapixel lens. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z Fold 9 Ultra is tipped to feature a 200-megapixel primary rear camera, alongside a 50-megapixel ultrawide lens and a telephoto shooter providing 3x optical zoom.
While the exact resolution of the Z Fold 9 Ultra’s telephoto sensor has not been leaked, predictions point to a sensor of 10 megapixels or 12 megapixels, mirroring expected configurations for the Galaxy S27 Pro. In addition, Samsung is reportedly developing two distinct versions of the Galaxy Z Fold 9, though it remains unconfirmed whether both models will ultimately reach the market or if one will be canceled prior to launch.
Background and Possibilities
These early rumors suggest Samsung is choosing to stick with familiar hardware rather than overhauling its foldable camera systems, despite rising competition in the market. While the upcoming Galaxy S27 Ultra is anticipated to feature a redesigned camera layout and improved image quality, those enhancements may not trickle down to the foldable lineup next year.
Furthermore, because the Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra are expected to utilize different Snapdragon processors, speculation suggests Samsung might adopt a similar strategy for its foldables. This could mean equipping the standard Galaxy Z Fold 9 with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chip, while reserving the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 processor exclusively for the Galaxy Z Fold 9 Ultra.
