What Happened
Apple has released the watchOS 27.3 developer beta, bringing two new Audio Intelligence features, Live Rewind and Siri Recap, to the Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4, according to reporting by The Verge. These tools join two other Audio Intelligence features that were made available earlier.
The Details
According to The Verge, Live Rewind allows users to view a transcript of the previous 15 seconds, while Siri Recap provides high-level conversation summaries. The features are not enabled by default. Users must actively opt in through the Watch app on a compatible iPhone running the iOS 27.3 developer beta. Furthermore, activating Live Rewind necessitates an initial microphone calibration performed with the phone, and users initiate it by double-pressing the watch crown.
Apple's onboarding process includes customization options for Siri Recap, allowing users to configure when the feature is active, such as limiting it to specific days and hours like weekdays at the office. An audible chime sounds to signal when the feature is in use, accompanied by an animation. Apple intends Siri Recap to provide factual notes designed to jog a user's memory.
What It Means
Initial testing by The Verge indicates that Live Rewind successfully generates transcripts, though learning the timing for the double-press requires practice. Siri Recap proved capable of identifying discussion topics and omitting sensitive information during a test editorial meeting, though initial tests also showed occasional misheard words. The features differ from other AI wearables like the Amazon Bee Frontier, which provides emotional tone insights and commerce integrations, whereas Apple focuses on straightforward transcription and factual notes without a commerce angle.
